Need for the project

A major issue in many adult education courses is the problem of students fitting in their courses with the many other demands on their limited time and resources. For example, children, jobs, financial restraints.
Even the most well intentioned students may find unexpected problems during a course, that interferes with the completion of a course.
DGU research
The research of the project has shown that the main reasons for adult dropout are:
- Pedagogical
- Psychology
- Financial
- Time pressures
- Low priority
Why Adult Students Dropout
Language schools invariably suffer from the same problems with evidence of up to 50% dropout rates.
These high dropout rates are extremely costly financially to language schools and colleges and course managers in planning and resource management. In addition, students suffer financially, educationally and psychologically by not achieving positive results.
The European Union Lingua actions premise is to encourage the take-up and learning of additional languages by European citizens and many excellent projects over the course of the action have been completed (see here). Many of the resources produced by these projects are still available. The link above will let you search through the projects.
It is obvious that attention now needs to be paid to the motivational factors that will help all levels of language education to achieve the best results with students completing language courses successfully.
The mission of Don’t Give Up is to complete this picture, the last piece of the puzzle, and help learners complete courses.
